Solar panels on our roof!

One of Växjö’s largest solar power installations is located on the roof of the Grand Samarkand shopping center. Instead of simply purchasing “green electricity” that has already been generated, we want to contribute to the expansion of renewable electricity in Sweden.

Being able to generate renewable energy, such as solar panels, on our large roof areas is one of our property owner’s environmental goals, and we are working to double the area in the future.

Here's how the sun benefits Grand Samarkand:

It is the sun that helps us generate energy for things like lighting, ventilation, and the automatic doors at our entrances. The roof of Grand Samarkand is home to one of Växjö’s largest solar power systems. This technology illuminates your visit to our shopping center while also helping to significantly reduce energy consumption.

On our roof, we have a solar power system covering 3,800 square meters with a panel area of 1,300 square meters, generating enough electricity to heat approximately 100 apartments or 45 average-sized single-family homes. We aim to be a role model when it comes to energy efficiency. All electricity used at Grand Samarkand comes from the solar power system or green electricity, which is primarily sourced from renewable sources such as hydropower, wind power, and biofuel. The district heating and cooling systems are eco-labeled.

Environmental efforts are part of our CSR work. CSR stands for Corporate Social Responsibility and recognizes that companies are part of society and can do more than just focus on obvious business objectives.
