Grand Samarkand is helping Sweden, on behalf of the UNHCR, raise funds for people fleeing for their lives in Ukraine. On Friday, March 18, we are organizing A DAY FOR UKRAINE here at Grand Samarkand.
For every visitor, Grand Samarkand & Ica Maxi Växjö donates 5 kr per visitor to Sweden for UNHCR.
All the money we raise together goes directly to Sweden to support the UNHCR and its work in Ukraine and neighboring countries. Every donation is important and saves lives.
On this day, we will be holding activities on-site, all to benefit the victims of the war in Ukraine.
March 18 Schedule:
11 a.m.–4 p.m. Musical entertainment
11-17 The Red Cross in Växjö will be on site to provide information about its work, what it is doing to support people who have been forced to flee Ukraine, and how to contribute to the international relief effort on the ground.
The Red Cross also welcomes new volunteers to its programs. Take this opportunity to make a humanitarian contribution and sign up to become a volunteer. In addition, the First Aid Group will be on hand to provide information and demonstrate how to use a defibrillator.
12–14 Lunch entertainment: John Martin Bengtsson—Växjö’s musical phantom—will be our guest at Grand Samarkand, treating us to musical performances that move us, give us strength, and inspire hope.
From 12 to 19, Erikshjälpen will have a truck parked outside. Here, you can donate items that will then be sold in the Erikshjälpen store, with all proceeds going directly to children and families in Ukraine. Erikshjälpen accepts china, textiles, clothing, toys, small furniture, sporting goods, and books—anything in sellable condition.
12-19 Connect with the Church of Sweden. When life is difficult—especially during these times—you may feel the need to talk to someone from the Church of Sweden. A pastor or deacon is here for you, regardless of your age or life situation; you do not need to be a Christian or a member of the Church of Sweden.

Throughout the day, Askelyckan, Baked & Grilled, Café Gården Maxi, Chili Wok, and Subway will also be donating 20% of their daily takings, so be sure to stop by for a meal or a snack
